When do we meet?
We meet at our scheduled training times in the main sports hall of Queen’s Sport PEC every week. These are;
• General Practice: Wednesday’s from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, followed by a visit to Wetherspoon for food & drinks
• Advanced Practice: Sunday’s from 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Sign Me Up!
No Problem, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or meet us at one of our training sessions on either a Wednesday or Sunday.
Whenever you come along to one of our weekly meetups, there is no obligation to pay for a club membership, however if you would like to register as a member and join us on caving trips, then you will have to pay a small, one-off fee.
The membership fees are detailed in the table;
|Student (At Queen's University)||£5.00|
|Student (Other University/School)||£10.00|
If you want to attend our training sessions, there may be additional costs if you do not have a Queen's Sport PEC membership - this is due to the location of where we undertake our training sessions.
The cost for entry is £4 for Queen's Students, or £6 for anyone else. However, if you have a Queen's Sport Off-Peak membership, tell the staff at the front desk you want to go to caving and they'll let you in for free!
As detailed above, we host two training sessions throughout the week. These are both hosted at Queen's Sport Physical Education Centre (PEC).
Please Note: No Previous Experience is required to attend our training sessions! We will train you up!
General Practice - Wednesday's from 5:30pm to 8:00pm
The General Practice session is hosted on a Wednesday from 5:30pm to 8:00pm at the Everest Wall in the Main Hall of Queen's Sport PEC.
The General Practice session is more suited towards new members, or our occasional members - however everyone is still welcome to attend! Here we host wall practice where we teach you basic caving techniques, show you how to use the various equipment required for caving and also where we introduce you to the wall.
The wall is where we will teach you how to make use of various Single Rope Techniques (SRT) which allow for you to access vertical caving environments. However, it should be noted that most caves don't actually require you to access them through SRT, instead you can simply walk, or crawl into them!
After we finish at 8:00pm (or when the PEC kicks us out!) we usually venture down to a local establishment (normally Wetherspoon's) to get some grub and drinks. Make sure to join us here as its usually a great time and a good atmosphere!
Advanced Practice - Sunday's from 1:30pm to 3:00pm
The Advanced Practice session is hosted on a Sunday from 1:30pm to 3:00pm in the same venue as the general practice session. It is more suited towards our members that want to learn how knots, rigging and other more challenging techniques.
You should definitely attend the advanced practice if you want to start attempting more challenging tasks, or if you just want to get more time practicing SRT!
We'll see you there :)
